POMPEII - Images from the Buried Cities

Foundations of Fashion: Underwear from the 19th and early 20th century

Underwear has long been a key factor in the overall shape and silhouette that can be achieved in outerwear; this exhibition displays some classic undergarments and looks inside a Victorian dress at the complicated system of ties and constricting boning.

Throughout his life the Reverend Dr Samuel Trail maintained a surprisingly organised collection of receipts and invoices, revealing interesting details about local businesses and the cost of living more than a hundred years ago.
